Be Love!

As an Educator, I’ve had countless conversations with students about their future paths. I’ve taught students to set academic and personal goals, we’ve tracked the goals, and we’ve discussed our missed or attained goals. We have even had discussions about how our passions should intertwine with our talents and goals, when we look into our future goals. And yet, I still hear the same question over and over… What is my purpose? Why am I here on Earth?

I’ve said it myself. What am I really good at? What is God’s purpose for my life? I wish the clouds would just open, and God would yell down a message nice and loud, “Stacy, this is your purpose…”‘

But as I’ve gotten older, one thing I do know that God is calling me to do is to show his love to others. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? And yet, when we are out in public and someone honks, or we get into a lengthy traffic jam that changes the events of our day, it is easy to forget to show God’s love.

Jesus was sent to Earth, as the human version of God. He is the representation of how we should act, love, respond, and show love. When Jesus was in the Temple, a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came to him, and was so embarrassed by her guilt and shame that she crawled in and came up behind Jesus. She reached out and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment as a sign of faith. Jesus knew that the woman had touched the hem of his garment. He reached down and said, “Take heart, daughter,” your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.

When we are confronted with someone like the bleeding woman, what is our first inclination? Do we engage with them or do we pretend they are not there? Or worse, yet, do we criticize and mock those that are unlike ourselves?

If we take a deep look within, we can probably all admit we have not always treated others the way Jesus would want us to. So how can we remedy this?

As Christians, we find similarities within one another, even though there may be slight differences, and this makes it easier to love one another. But what about loving your angry neighbor or the lady in the grocery store? Well, God wants us to love them too.

I’ve challenged myself to love someone daily the way Jesus would. Will you join my challenge? Smile at someone today, say something kind to someone who looks like they need a kind word.

The only way for the world to see love through Christians, is for us to BE LOVE!
