Who are you?

Yesterday I was in a store and I had someone approach me and start talking to me as if they knew me. I willingly obliged their conversation trying to shuffle through my rolodex of names to find the right one as I talked. Then the lady said, “Oh my goodness, you’re not MaryKate! But, you could be her twin!” I wish I had a nickel for every time I was mistaken for someone else, apparently I have many dopplegangers around the world. After she realized I was not MaryKate, she then asked me, what my name was, so I told her Stacy. She pondered it as if it didn’t fit me, then shrugged and smiled before we parted.

I’ve gone through periods in my life where my identity has changed. When I graduated from college, I became a teacher and got married. I went from being Miss Hardy to Mrs. Leicht, the 2nd Grade Teacher. Then I became Kelsey’s mom and Zach’s mom. When my children were in school, I would often be recognized as Kelsey’s mom or Zach’s mom and somehow people seemed to forget I had a first name. This lasted until they graduated and left for college.

When we became empty-nesters, I remember feeling like I had to find a new identity AGAIN! Yes, I was still a teacher, I was still married to my wonderful hubby, and I still had these amazing children, but who else was I? I was a Christian, but what did that mean exactly, for my identity.

Scripture says: I am a child of God (Romans 8:26), I am Forgiven (Colossians 1:13.14), I am Kept in Safety wherever I go (Psalm91:11), I am an heir to eternal life (1 John 5:11,12), I am a daughter of the King (Galations 3:26). Those are just a few of the identities that I found in scripture that I could claim. So, I pulled out as many identities from scripture as I could, and decided to read just one scripture a day to ponder in depth. Just the first one, I am a child of God, was so amazing, that I could spend a week on it alone.

So, I’d like a do-over. If I met the lady in the store again, I think I might answer differently. I might say, Hi, my name is Stacy and I’m a child of God. Who are you?

Blessings Sweet Friends,

Stacy

  1. Love this! It makes me think of the Mathew West song “Hello my name is Child of the One True King!” Thank you for posting this!
