Mending a Broken Heart!

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. While I cherished every moment with my mom, I can tell you I have come to realize as I grow older, that all around me there are people who are saddened by that day. On one hand, I felt gratitude to God for my sweet children, who I know are heavenly gifts, but I also felt myself questioning God for why he allows such heartache to others who lost mothers, women who cannot have children, or families who lose a child to illness or accident.
I read a few posts by friends and acquaintances that hurt my heart. I wanted to reach through my computer screen to hug them and make their hurts go away. However, I know there is only One that can mend broken hearts, answer the Why questions, and can provide comforter like no other. That One is God!
God sent his beloved Son to die on the cross for our sins. Could there be any more anguish than that? Imagine the agony of seeing your perfect son hanging on a cross, scorned, being spat upon by unbelievers, mocked, ridiculed, and eventually tortured? And Yet, not only did God allow it, he didn’t stop it! And Jesus, the perfect Son, knew this was the path set before him, and he followed the path, so that we may have eternal life.
So yes, God knows our heartaches. He understands our hurts, because he made us. In Jeremiah 1:5 (ESV) “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you’ I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Hear the powerful words of the Lord, Isaiah 43:1-3 – “Fear not, for I have redeemed you’ I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you’ and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you’ when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. “
Imagine knowing we can walk without fear throughout our day because our Lord is so powerful, he can keep waters from overwhelming us, he can keep fires from consuming us. Only God has that kind of power, might, and strength.
When our hearts hurt, and we don’t have answers, you can call out to the One who can heal your pains. “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. “Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
Be aware of those around you that are hurting, that need a hug, or a mug of coffee with a friend. You can heal a hurting heart by listening to God.
“The Same Power that Raised Christ from the Dead is Living in You”, Romans 8:11.
